Commitment to Education

Education has always been the primary objective of the Mandal. During its early years, secondary schools and institutions offering higher education were not available in many villages. Navsari, however, had well-established colleges offering Arts, Commerce and Science courses. At that time, many young people could not afford college fees and accommodation expenses. As a result, some students had to stay with relatives to continue their studies.

During this period, colleges were established in Navsari, Valsad, Bilimora and Chikhli, creating greater opportunities for students from surrounding areas to pursue higher education.

With a firm commitment to supporting students, the Mandal began constructing a hostel building during 1965–66. After several years of effort, the building was completed in 1970–71. The hostel provided accommodation to male students pursuing their education, without any discrimination. This initiative became an important milestone in the Mandal’s journey towards promoting education and creating opportunities for young people.

Recognizing the importance of cultural development alongside education, the Mandal also constructed Rangbhavan, a dedicated space for cultural activities, on 22 February 1994.

Expansion of Social Welfare Activities

Over the years, the Mandal expanded its work beyond educational assistance. Under the guidance and efforts of its office-bearers and dedicated volunteers, several welfare schemes were introduced to support individuals and families in need.

These initiatives include:

• Educational Assistance Scheme: Financial assistance to support students in continuing their education.
• Orphan Assistance Scheme: Support for orphaned children and those in need of care and assistance.
• Medical Assistance Scheme: Financial help for individuals facing medical expenses.
• Emergency Assistance Scheme: Support for people and families experiencing unexpected difficulties.
• Disability Assistance Scheme: Assistance for persons with disabilities.
• Group Marriage and Kanyadan Scheme: Support for the group collective marriage ceremonies of daughters from the community.
• Food Donation (Annadan) Scheme: Distribution of food grains and other food assistance according to the funds available with the Mandal.

These schemes reflect the Mandal’s continuing commitment to social responsibility, community welfare and humanitarian service. The implementation and financial details of these activities can be referred to in the Mandal’s annual accounts.

A Legacy of Service and Community Development

Since its establishment in 1942, Shri Darji Gnati Seva Mandal has steadily evolved from an organization primarily focused on educational support into an institution engaged in a wide range of social welfare activities. The dedication of its founders, community elders, office-bearers, donors and volunteers has played an important role in sustaining its mission over the decades.

The Mandal continues to work towards improving educational opportunities, extending assistance to vulnerable individuals and families, promoting cultural activities and supporting the overall well-being of the community.

Its journey stands as a testament to the enduring values of education, cooperation, compassion and collective responsibility. Through its various initiatives, the Mandal remains committed to serving society and building a stronger future for generations to come.
